General Notes: Husband - Henry Eller

Henry Eller, son of Peter and Nancy [?] Eller, was born about 1848 in Ashe County North Carolina. Henry is found age 2 in the 1850 Ashe Co . Census, age 10 in 1860, and age 21 in the 1870 US Census. He is listed as age 27 in the 1880 US Census - it would be safe to say this is a bit off, since he was at least nearly 2 by the time of the 1850 census (if he was 27, he would not have been on the 1850 census), which means he would have to be about 32. Henry married Callie [?] before 1878 , since their oldest child Mirtie, age 2 in the 1880 US Census, was born about 1878. They also have a son Luke, age 10 months, probably named after Henry's brother Luke.

General Notes: Husband - Edward Edwin Evans

Edward consistently states in the census that he was born in Virginia but he did not seem to know exactly when he was born. In the 1880 census he listed his age as 61, which would make him born about 1819. In the 1870 census he listed his age as 43, which would make him born about 1827. In the 1860 census he listed his age as 31, which would make him born about 1829. I have not been able to locate him in the 1850 census as yet. He states in the 1880 census that his parents were born in Virginia. Combining the fact that his residence in the 1860 census is in Montgomery Co., and the fact that there are a couple of old Evans families in that County, I am guessing that he is from that area . The prime candidate is Marcus Evans, who was born about 1798 in Montgomery Co. and who died before March 6, 1848. He is listed in the 1830 census as having a male child between five and ten years of age. This could be Edward. The other local Evans, John Evans (1784-1858), had thirteen children, but I believe I have accounted for all of these . The Evans family name is Welsh and means "John".

General Notes: Wife - Nancy Ann Barker

Like her husband, Nancy's census reports suggest she was uncertain of her age. In 1860 she reported her age as 32, i.e., born about 1828. In 1870, she reported her age as 45, i.e., born about 1825. In 1880 she reported her age as 53, i.e., born about 1827. In 1900, she reported her birth month and year as March, 1826. She too, consistently reports that she was born in Virginia and, in the 1880 census, she states that her parents were born in Virginia. Some reports from the family suggest a link to Henry County. The 1850 census has a listing in Henry county for Green Barker, age 46 and his family. Green is an unusual name and is also the middle name of Nancy's son, William. As Barker is a surprisingly unsusual name in Montgomery County in 1850 and only slightly more usual in Henry County, it is possible that Nancy was from Henry County and Green was her father. The 1840 census lends further support to this, as Green is listed as having two female household members besides his wife, one age 15 to 20 and one age 10 to 15.
