General Notes: Husband - Robert Hart

Sarah died in 1784 and Robert married his cousin, Deborah Hart. After Robert's death, his widow married Robert Merritt. Like his father, he was a tenant farmer on the Estate of Frederick Philipse III. Philipse was a loyalist and his lands were seized and put up for sale after the Revolutionary War. Robert, who was the tenant of land around what is now the corner of Central Park Avenue and Hartsdale Avenue, purchased the land and it became know as Hart's Corners. In the mid 19th century this name morphed into "Hartsdale".
